Detecting cancer early on can make such a big difference!

The good news is that cancer screening will get much easier in the future. But first things first.

As the chart shows, when for example, colon cancer is detected very early, 9 out of 10 patients will survive 5 years. When colon cancer is only detected after it has advanced significantly, 1 in 10 patients survives 5 years.

For colon cancer there is already a good stool based screening test on the market. But imagine, what if you could detect colon cancer in the blood of a patient? 

Quite a few companies are actually working on this paradigm shift. The technology is called liquid biopsy. Screening blood is much easier for patients and this will have fundamental implications on how cancer is prevented and treated. Stay tuned!
