Kieger Healthcare Chart of the Month

Have you ever wondered why healthcare costs seem to increase year after year?

Hi I am Raphael Oesch from Kieger

One of the most important factors is aging. This chart shows the average personal healthcare costs per age group. And as societies now age, more and more people will fall into these high cost buckets.

But what can be done to bring costs under control? At Kieger we look for sustainable companies that:

  1. Increase the connectivity between different healthcare participants to reduce wasteful duplications
  2. Change the incentive structure so that the outcome is rewarded and not the service itself. This includes a push to to lower cost, high quality settings like home, ambulatory and virtual
  3. And lastly, companies that provide true innovation, that show a clear health and cost benefit.

Because one thing is certain, in the short term the demographic change is not stoppable, however its consequences on HC costs can and should be influenced.
