We keep hearing about population ageing, and it often seems quite abstract. Is there a way see this in a more concrete way?
Let’s have a look at the impact on the US jobs.
This chart shows the compound annual growth rate of jobs, over the past 10 years.
The column on the left hand side shows that healthcare jobs have grown at an average rate of 2.3% over this time period, more than twice as fast as all other jobs in the US economy.
That’s quite impressive, and even more so since this has been going on for more than a decade.
What has been driving this, and what does it mean for investors?
Population ageing has been one of the key drivers of this dynamic, as well as the associated increasing demands for staying healthy and mobile longer.
For investors, we see this as a confirmation of secular trend for increased demand in health care as a key tailwind for the sector.
