Innovation in healthcare enables to address unmet clinical needs. Here one example, you need to know!
Hi, I am Maria from Kieger
Scientific research is indispensable for the development of new therapies.
The innovation pathway of the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis is remarkable. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, resulting in the production of thick and sticky mucus that clogs the airways and leads to respiratory infections and other complications.
As shown in the chart, the life expectancy of people with cystic fibrosis in the 50s was tragically low, with many affected individuals not surviving beyond childhood.
Today, thanks to significant advancements in medical care, early diagnosis, and targeted treatments, the life expectancy has dramatically improved.
While challenges remain, particularly for individuals with rare or less common CFTR mutations, the future promises further improvements in care, better outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with this condition.
